Innovation or waste of TIME?

Recently Apple announced the launch of their new invention, the Apple Watch, but how different is it from its rival the Samsung Gear?

From a design aspect, both watches share a square face display and a range of different straps. The Apple Watch has a single crown-conventionally used to change the time, however, rotating the crown on this watch allows you to scroll through different apps on the screen or zoom in and out, and pressing the crown into the device will return you to the home menu, which hosts a large display of apps on the screen. Whereas the Gear 2 on the other hand has a home button at the bottom of the watch and a 2-megapixel camera placed at the top. Apple also made a good decision in producing the Apple Watch with a choice of two sizes; 38 mm and 42 mm, which will satisfy a range of wrist sizes.

As far as technology is concerned, just like the Apple watch, the Samsung Gear can make calls, send you real time notifications from your phone and also uses ‘S voice’ which is Samsung’s version of Siri. However, the Apple watch has a Sapphire crystal display which next to diamond, is the hardest transparent material. On watches in the Sport collection, protection is provided by strengthened Ion-X glass.

The Apple watch which will be released in early 2015, has a retina display with a high pixel density for better image quality and hosts a new type face which has been designed to maximize legibility. The changeable interfaces will allow users to personalize their Apple Watch further.
With any smart watch, battery life is an issue, however, the watch‘s display is said to be energy efficient. While Apple hasn't officially announced the battery life of the device, it has introduced an innovative, magnetic-based charging system with the suggestion that the Apple Watch can be charged easily overnight, ready for everyday use.

There are three versions to choose from; the ‘Apple Watch’ the ‘Apple Watch Sport’ and the ‘Apple watch Edition’ which is dependent on the user’s preference and price range. Additionally, Apple has created a wide range of strap styles that can change the look of the device completely: from options in leather and other more robust synthetic materials to a vintage-styled bracelet.

On the reverse, there are four LED sensors which measure your heart rate, you can use this feature for fitness purposes or for a more personal touch you can send it as a recording to your contacts

Personally I think the Apple watch is a brilliant invention, on the other hand it requires an iPhone to operate. Has Apple created the watch as just another way to boost iPhone sales? But most importantly, is the watch enough to persuade others to invest in an iPhone?
